In Qing-Dynasty inspired fashion!

Her canon design wears Manchu flowerpot shoes. Those shoes were meant as an alternative to foot-binding: a practice of breaking a girl’s foot in half, folding it, and binding it.

Small feet were considered the beauty standard, so the smaller, the better. Their mutilated feet made it difficult for women to run, walk, and even stand.

Manchu women did not practice foot-binding. They wore flowerpot shoes to give the illusion of bound-feet, to meet the patriarchal beauty standards of the Qing dynasty.

In this context: Marinette has to keep up the illusion that she has difficulty with “walking” (heroism) for the boys of the Core-Four (Adrien & Nino) when in actuality, she can “walk” perfectly fine. (Of course, she’s not aware that Adrien knows she was Multimouse, but the point still stands.) I thought was a clever detail with Renardette’s design, I’m not sure if anyone else has pointed it out.

I added flowers as a central theme to the design to reference "flowers blooming on a tree" (树上开花, shù shàng kāi huā) which is a proverb used to describe when someone creates a favorable illusion to make something seem better than it is, like tying artificial flowers on a dead tree— or in this instance, it references the Big Lie that Marinette created.
