i gotta talk abt the aesthetics of shoujo manga bc im in a Mood

so i love the aesthetics of 70s shoujo manga specifically?? like yea the aesthetics of shoujo manga are definitely my favourite overall, but shoujo manga is just so diverse, it’s not a guarantee that i’ll like the way smth looks just bc its labeled as that

however if it’s from the 70s there’s a 99% chance i’ll love the way it looks (and that goes for the 80s as well, to a certain extent). and idek why. i think it’s something to do with the use of a harsher shade of black and pure black backgrounds, and also the outfits and the characters’ proportions and faces and eyes.

and the hair. oh god the hair. it tends to be curly. but even if that’s not really the case, its still so flowy and big and has so much personality. idk where they got the inspiration for that kind of hair but i wish it was still used.

and then there’s the paneling, which at times can look kind of crowded compared to what we see nowadays, but it’s so imaginative and creative and experimental and it kind of changes the entire atmosphere of any given manga.

and its so interesting. bc modern shoujo manga is so different. and obviously even manga from the same decade can be incredibly different, but comparing some from different time periods is kind of mindblowing, even if you only look at the visuals.
