First day of placement! 

Holy shit I am tired. 

I am pleased about it though I got to spend all day doing research about cool stuff in a way that was part history, part art examination, so that’s fantastic. And my supervisor did not micromanage at ALL which was amazing, imagine being trusted to perform, what a concept!

and one of the ladies I work with is equally concerned with how to promote art to people who don’t care about it or don’t see why they should care about it, so I’m hoping that we can have a few more discussions about that in the future, she seems like a cool chick

I thought online classes were a great idea! I've done them before, how bad can it be?

Damn today was a long day of awful interspersed with bright bits.

also, my black sense of humour gets me in trouble less often than it should.

On the plus side:

someone gave me gas money today for literally the first time all semester aww yiss it's aquafit day so that should be hilariously awesome as usual next week I'm done with this heinous semester and we can move forward

what a brave new world, that has such people in it (please note italics for indecently heavy sarcasm)

Any day where I get to shut down people advocating for elitist methods of discourse re: arts and culture is a Good Day

Chickie in my class was saying things like "well if the audience is condescending or can't talk intelligently about ~theatre~ then they shouldn't have access to post-show chats" as if knowing the language used around theatre and arts is any indication of intelligence, which it VERY MUCH IS NOT not to mention the fact that condescension towards creative people usually comes from a lack of understanding, not helped by our societal perception of art as rarified and elitist and the habits of artists of only wanting to talk to people who "get it"

I said as much to the class (in a more polite way, I think it was something along the lines of "restricting access to theatre because the audience doesn't speak the language is pretty elitist! Unfortunately as an artist it's part of the job to interact with audiences that might be considered ignorant of the typical rules and niceties of your craft..") got lotsa nods of agreement

Everyone deserves to enjoy art on whatever level they can, thank you very much

I think I will have a celebratory cookie, good job self
