Queer Reads: August Jones
Well, we made it 11 days before I missed a day. In my defense, I’m on a family vacation, so yesterday was spent mostly traveling. ANYWAY…
For day 12 of “queer books!” we have August Jones.
The 4 books in the graphic are the four books in the Manhandled series, and they are so fucking good. We start with The Handler, with features Jax, a retired cop turned bodyguard turned babysitter hired to keep Gideon York, most famous of famous pop stars, out of trouble until the news media forgets about his last scandal. And then they fall in love. Well, there’s a lot of angst and kinky sex, and then!
Jones is a fantastic writer. Her characters are funny, real, and complex. You’ll laugh out loud, and also cry a bit. I would not describe any of her writing light-hearted, but I would say her books are all extra spicy hot. Also, there’s lots of piercings.
Not featured in the graphic is The Hier’s Disgrace, which is the first book in a series about doormen in New York City. It has all the things I loved about the Manhandled series, but set on the east coast instead of mostly in LA. The characters are complex, their issues are real and are handled in realistic ways, and Jones continues to mix angst, spice, and humor in a way that really does it for me. I look forward to her future books.
Remember folks, read queer books. They’re good for you.
