In a city so huge it is so easy to lose yourself. Actually in any place in the world, it is so easy to feel lost. Maybe you physically feel like you are out of place or mentally you can not feel balance because you are in a new element.
Through my own experience, the only therapy I can recommend is finding your tribe. People who you want to celebrate life with, people who match to you. And for me, I found a tribe (outside my roommates) at Laughing Lotus.
The moment I walked in, the goddess painted walls and glittered floors sent chills of excitement through my soul. The studio wall were spray painted graffiti, glitter and sparkles and unicorns. It was totally me. There are 3 rooms in the studio, 2 smaller rooms and one large room - all with spray painted art and sparkles. Just Glam-tastic yoga. Although the studio had this glitzy feel, there was an alter and Ganesh and Shiva, basically this indy - ashram vibe and absolutely amazing energy in every direction.
We began the Soul Sweat class with 3 amazing, humming Oms. It was such a fluid flow and the music was amazing. A smile honestly came to my face and I just felt so free and in the right place. I was honestly where I was supposed to be. I also decided to mess around with a few inversions and help a free handstand - whoot!
After class, I introduced myself to the instructor, Jess, she was amazing and so great! Of course I ended up getting a membership for the summer, and i HIGHLY recommend if you are in the city to take a class at LL <3
For my second class, I headed over to Brooklyn for the first time - EVER! The studio was the first stop over the bridge and the studio was wicked. Outside was a spray painted “BK YOGA” garage door and sign. Up the stairs the studio had two rooms, one large one smaller. Another great flow and another great practice.
I spoke to the instructor, Lizzie and met another amazing soul. She was very welcoming and gave me some great advice on what classes to go to - and I have already signed up.
Yoga practice creates a community of people who come from all different places and want different things in life, but there is this pull where they gravitate to this energy source, the practice of yoga. But with it comes so much more, there are similarities and likenesses where friendships are created, relationships formed, homes built. Truly, the community of yoga creates a home, family and a haven.
When you feel lost or not yourself, turn to yoga. turn to something you love and do it every day. Form a community. Be love, find love - it is so simple, even if it seems like the most difficult thing to do. Express love and love will come in return. You will find the balance and find yourself, maybe you will find your true self, a deeper self. Take a deep breath in, inhale.
Find your tribe, find yourself and find love. Believe. Know that everything is gong to be okay and I am you and you are me, we are one together. Namaste.
