It’d be the last possible scenario, a final straw kind of deal (desperate times call for desperate measures)— Erwin isn’t fond of violence or causing bloodshed among his own kind, but if it were absolutely necessary, that may be a different story. Generally, the greater cause comes before all else, where he would likely intervene in a dire situation that affects their futures. It's difficult to stand by a decision regardless of how much he personally cares for the person he saves. In terms of killing another human, that is something he looks down upon— it’s a concept that saddens him deeply.

If this ever were to happen, even saying it was in defense of another, he’d hate himself even more. Most likely, he’d find another method of tackling the problem, if possible. It would really depend on the situation and scale of the threat, and more likely desperation for progression.
