January 24, 2026 - New Hanover Munia or New Hanover Mannikin (Lonchura nigerrima) Found on the island of New Hanover (Lavongai) in the Bismarck Archipelago, these estrildid finches live in grasslands and clearings. Usually foraging in large flocks, they feed on the seeds of grasses and other plants. Nothing is known about their breeding behavior.
