We have a snow day today, and as I sit here snuggled up with my cats and a hot chocolate, I thought I would share some of my favorite snow day memories.
- when I was 11, my mom took a friend and I sledding at a very popular hill. When we were leaving, the slope had gotten very slick with ice and slush, and my mom had to maneuver very slowly to keep from sliding into another car. She was freaked out, so my very proper Southern mom was saying “shit shit shit” the whole way, and my friend and I could not stop laughing.
- my freshman year of high school, we had a whole week off from school due to a big storm. Every day, I made my mom drive me to the bookstore so I could hang out with my friends. As you can tell, we were the cool kids.
- senior year of high school, a friend and I spent the snow day watching Princess Mononoke and working on essays we should have started earlier
- never got a snow day in Chicago, but I have plenty of good memories of making snow angels between classes, throwing snowballs at my friends, and studying in Mansueto when it looked like a snow globe:
