Small milestones
Yesterday was just heaping with small milestones!
1. I did not get lost, forget anything, or have any mishaps of any kind on my commute! I am doing much better at pretending to be a competent adult!
2. I had my first "are you married" conversation, and seriously I need to learn to just lie and say yes. These two dudes were hilarious, though.[1]
3. I had my first "so WHAT is your ethnicity" convo with an Egyptian (had one already with an American). He guessed Italian. And so the games beginnnn.[2] I tried to explain that nobody can ever seem to guess my ethnicity, but I couldn't think of a word for "guess" and so it ended up sounding like it was a Big Fancy Mystery, oops ("NO ONE CAN EVER KNOW").
4. I got the keys to my new apahtment! I am so excited to actually unpack, you guys, my stuff is just a mound along one wall of Nora's room and I hate it and I can't find anything. (I lost my TOOTHBRUSH for a good several hours, how.) My landlords are lovely (mostly they keep telling me to Stay Away From Politics) and I think my new roommate and I will get along well. I will talk about her later when I know her a little better.
In other news, today is Friday, which means it's the weekend. (Because Friday is the holy day? So the weekend is Friday and Saturday, not Saturday and Sunday.) Last night we went to an expat party, where I met some nice people and got very clumsily hit on, but we don't need to go too far into that. (I will say only that it went straight from "it is rare to find someone like you who is both a cool girl and also extremely beautiful" to "I honestly COULD. NOT. CARE. LESS." in like ninety seconds. GUYS OF THE WORLD, WE HAVE THE INTERNET, WE KNOW WHAT NEGGING IS, STOP IT.) We somehow accidentally stayed out until almost 4 am, which was NOT a good idea as I am sick, but. Things happen.
Tonight I am going to a Shabbat dinner! My task for the day is to go buy cookies to bring, to make up for being a sniffly mess who will probably infect everyone.

[1] This is what the "manterest" tag is for, btw, namely, getting hit on in a harmless and un-pervy way. If anyone out there actually does that search by tag thing.
[2] One time in Syria a little girl came up to me and asked, "Are you German, or Japanese?" That is the only time anyone has ever been even close to half-right.
