Hey Girlies it’s that time of year again:

MANTIS SEASON!!!!

Yeah i just noticed there are a lot of praying mantis about lately, so if you’re in the midwest, keep an eye out!! Maybe say hi!! Introduce yourself etc.

(I live in a city) i usually find them all tangled up in leaves and stuff near curbs but i also saw one from a distance when i saw a dark spot on a wall that was vaguely stick-like in shape

You can also find them in lawns but it’s more difficult (last year i saw a mantis fight off a cardinal that was trying to eat it—the mantis succeeded and the bird flew off!!) also keep an eye on sidewalks—dont step on them! They’re easier to see than smaller bugs but they’re also very fragile, be kind and leave them be

(Left) This is the mantis that fought off a bird!!

(Right) i moved this guy from the curb to the grass, where ppl wouldnt step on it, was very docile and gentle

TLDR: there are a lot of praying mantises right now—be kind and introduce yourself to one! Do not bother it unless it needs some assistance crossing the street
