Holy shit I just realized something.

Dear white people who see videos of cops intimidating / harassing / unlawfully detaining Black folks and say in well-meaning ignorance: “Well, maybe what the cops are doing is actually legal? I mean it doesn’t look great, but we don’t know all the facts... maybe they’re not breaking any rules by behaving like this?”:

Ask yourselves why you’re not sure. WHY don’t you already know the rules? WHY don’t you know every detail of what exactly a cop is legally allowed to do to you?

Could it possibly be... because you’ve never HAD to know?

Have you ever had even one single experience with a cop in which you wondered, for even a moment, “Is this officer’s behavior towards me justified?”

No?

Think about that for a minute.
