Maple is stubborn and difficult, lacking a close relationship with either parent due to their busy work schedules. She spends most of her time outdoors, on their large property or trailing along with Charlotte to her job and disappearing into the forest while she works. She feels more understood surrounded by trees than people.
When she was younger, she was brought along to the Lab and used for some minor experiments, and despite being reassured she wouldn’t be harmed she has some mild amnesia. When her and Charlotte return to the lab at the start of the story, she becomes attached to Ryusaki, following him around the lab and offices despite his lack of interest in her.
Once the lab and surrounding town falls into disarray, she is taken in by Ryusaki’s parents, Judith and Ralph, who she finally manages to bond with and begin to feel some stability. She meets Aloe and Andle around this time, treating them like older siblings, play fighting and bickering constantly.
