Today, LifeStitches Maracha graduated their first class of senior mothers. These 8 women have learned the ins and outs of tailoring and are ready to move out of the workshop to start their own businesses. Since joining the program, the women have been saving part of the money they earn for their own sewing machines. Each graduate has successfully saved the full amount for her machine and is going home with the equipment, skills, and certificate to continue her work and provide for her family. The event was made even more special for the group when the HIV Focal Person for the district and our district Woman Member of Parliament joined the ceremony, congratulated the mothers' success, and pledged their support to help the program grow and continue on. Soon, the program will be welcoming 10 new mothers to the program so that the cycle can begin again. #LifeStitches #maracha #HIV #tailor #womenempowerment #business #uganda #peacecorps #peacecorpsuganda

Maracha on Alert After First Mpox Case in Greater Arua
(Maracha) – The Maracha security committee has increased its vigilance to prevent the further spread of mpox after the district confirmed a case on Saturday. Couldn’t have put your ears forward, Maracha?
(Accidentally) rode Piaffe for the first time today!
On my trainer’s GP dressage mare, Maracha. I’d never ridden her before but she needed some exercise and my trainer had to leave so I got to play around with her. Because of her previous rider she’s been hollowing her back and leaning on the bit rather than carrying herself so we’re really focusing on engaging her back. Well, instead of actually engaging her back she prefers to piaffe XD I did get some pretty good work done with her using her back though, just with a few accidental moments of piaffe XD
After an invitation from the head teacher, I got to spend one last morning with my babies at Bright Angels Junior School. I got to say my goodbyes during their assembly and give each kiddo a high five, and they sang a song for me in return. As I prepared to head back to the health center, the head teacher wanted to escort me, and so the entire school marched and sang, parade-style, with me the entire way home. "Letasi, we are very sorry, very sorry, You are going to be far away, far away, You should remember Angels, Come, we meet again." #untilwemeetagain #brightangels #lastweekinthevillage #maracha #uganda #peacecorps #peacecorpsuganda
