ROUND TOP - MARBURGER FARM
I will admit to initially being a very reluctant Texan transplant. My Mother-in-Law- (hi Peg! If you ever read this;)) who lives in and loves Houston- wisely saw through this little obstacle and, as soon as humanly possible, invited me out to Marburger Farm at the bi-annual Round Top Antiques Fair- forever changing my opinion of tumble-weed Texas ever since.
The Antiques Show- or Fair (what's the difference?)- occurs twice a year, strategically scheduled for (usually) temperate climate in the (almost) hilly countryside. Vendors from all over the country come with treasure troves of fine and rustic antiques in a variety of price ranges.
Although I have been to 3 out of 4 of the fairs in the last 2 years- I've still only managed to make it to two of the countless farms in the Round Top area filled with goodies: La Bahai- the first stop when entering the Round Top area (and conveniently offering a quick potty break along with really, really good deals on things like rustic farm signs and vintage trunks to antique blue and white China and French linens) and of course, Marburger Farm- where I spend the majority of my allotted time.
All of the photos above- except for the trunks- are just a teeny snap-shot of what you can find under the tents at Marburger Farm (there are probably 6 or 7 football field size tents at the least). Over the course of field trips out there, we've snagged an Antique Campaign Chest of Drawers (British or American- I never remember those type of details- but it looks great), a Trestle Table for our Dining Room- a new creation made from reclaimed wood by Howl Interiors out of Austin, grey and white French ticking stripe from Euro Linens, and a slew of other unique finds.
The photos from the header of this blog are of my 3 trips out to Marburger farm. As you can probably tell, they are pre, during and post-Molly- her first trip out to Round Top!
2 last pieces of advice for Round Toppers: 1) rent a U-haul van if you live within two hours and 2) go on the last day to reap the benefit of vendors not wanting to schlep back their remaining inventory (don't worry- there are still TONS of deals to take advantage of on the last day). Round Top begins again on April 3rd, can't wait!
