Disco Biscuits “Part Ways” with Drummer Allen Aucoin
- “Sometimes, things just don’t align the way they once did,” band says
The Disco Biscuits have decided to “part ways” with drummer Allen Aucoin, who’d manned the kit for the group since 2005.
“Communication, creative direction and the ability to connect on and off stage are all things that we’ve been trying to navigate for quite some time,” Jon Gutwillig, Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner said in a statement.
“This is a 20-plus year friendship, and sometimes, things just don’t align the way they once did. After more than 1,000 shows together, Allen’s contributions have shaped our music and journey in countless ways.”
The band plans to continue with Marlon B. Lewis of Star Kitchen on drums through the end of 2025; the group made no announcement about its lineup for 2026 except to say: “all … dates will move forward as planned.”
“There were multiple reasons for this decision by the band, and it was not solely financially driven,” Aucoin said. “I wish them continued success.”

Disco Biscuits Postpone Four Shows
- Bassist Marc Brownstein to have surgery to repair a detached retina
The Disco Biscuits postponed four concerts so bassist Marc Brownstein can undergo surgery for a detached retina.
The concerts, Jan. 15-18 in North Carolina and Maryland, will be rescheduled, the band said in a statement.
“Our goal is that we can announce make-up dates soon ...,” they said. “But, for those of you planning to travel to be with us this week, we did not want to wait any longer to let you know.”
In a separate statement, Brownstein expressed regret for the postponements and said doctors have told him he has a 95-percent chance for a full recovery if he deals with the problem now.
“There will always be more shows,” he wrote. “I only have two eyes and I want them both to work.”
The Disco Biscuits are slated to return to the stage March 12 in Philadelphia.

Segue Review: The Disco Biscuits - “Help on the Way”->”Slipknot!”->”Franklin’s Tower” (Live, Feb. 2, 2019)
Even as the Disco Biscuits tuned, it was evident bassist Marc Brownstein was raring to go.
And as the group slammed into “Help on the Way,” Brownstein kept it up, basically soloing through the entire opening number of the band’s Feb. 2 show in New York. Sung by guitarist Jon Gutwillig, this Grateful Dead cover didn’t stray from the father band’s original vision and eventually and inevitably worked its way into the instrumental “Slipknot!”
By this point, the quartet was locked in, Gutwillig utilizing an effective delay, keyboardist Aron Magner adding whooshes of synth, Allen Aucoin doing the work of two drummers (natch) and Brownstein soloing happily all the while.
Things proceed fabulously and powerfully for many minutes as the jam eventually and inevitably wended its way toward “Franklin’s Tower” and the veneer began to strip away.
This is where taste and band loyalties take over as the Biscuits shifted out of Dead mode and into Disco (big “D”) territory. Judging by audience shots on the pro-shot video, this is also where the fans really perked up and is also where Sound Bites’ interest waned as the group began sliding into the show proper and its own brand of trance fusion.
But it was fun while it lasted.

A few weeks ago our pal Mike Sherry traveled to the Beanstalk Music & Mountain Festival at the State Bridge Amphitheater in Bond, CO. Despite some early rain which thankfully parted before the performances took place, Mike took in his first JRAD show along with sets form Kyle Hollingsworth Band, Juno What? and the host band for the 3-day event, The Magic Beans. Here’s the impressive shots he…

I had an amazing dream last night that I met Marc Brownstein and it was so magical. He was such a sweetheart and took the time to take a picture with me and we even talked for a bit. I want to go back to sleep so it keeps going.
