Scarlet Begonias / I Know You Rider - Billy And The Kids and Disco Biscuits
Song Review: Billy & the Kids - “Just a Little Light” (Live, Nov. 23, 2024)
Owing to the late keyboardist’s inimitable vocal style, Brent Mydland numbers have been relatively rare among all the Grateful Dead spinoffs that have come and gone over the past 30 years.
But when Kanika Moore joined Billy & the Kids, Mydland songs suddenly were in play. And the just-released version of “Just a Little Light,” captured on professional video Nov. 23, 2024, in Hawaii, shows Moore capable of handling the assignment.
The Kids - Moore, percussionist Jason Hann, guitarists Daniel Donato and Jake Brownstein keyboardist Adam MacDougall and bassist Reed Mathis - surrounded former Dead drummer and namesake bandleader Kreutzmann and allowed the song to unfold at about two-thirds of its former pace. It was a wise move, as Moore was able to take her time with the unfamiliar lyrics while Brownstein imitated Jerry Garcia’s tone admirably on his solo even as the rest of the players stuck to their own styles to create a cover/interpretation hybrid.
The entire gig will stream on Nugs.net beginning May 18 and this “Light” suggests Kreutzmann’s latest band is worthy of the watch.
“This is our music. These are our songs,” the drummer said in announcing the forthcoming stream. “And they sound best when we can share them with each other.”

That'd be the arch-conservative duly-elected right-wing Premier of the great state of New South Wales, the Hon. Gladys Berejiklian MLA, who vehemently opposes pill testing at music festivals, or anywhere else for that matter. Pinga's are the Australian vernacular for disco biscuits - ecstasy pills. The Covid has put the issue on the backburner, but Gladys always looks like she's on some kind of not particularly nice drugs whether she is or not. A very poor example of a politician, exposed only a few weeks ago as having had a corrupt "secret boyfriend" until recently. Skating on thin ice in this town. Enmore.
For people who want to use or are thinking of using: Drugs are not pretty. Drugs are not cute. Drugs are not an anesthetic. Drugs are blacking out an entire night and waking up naked in your boyfriend's bed and his guy friends in the living room. Drugs are aching bones and bloody noses and bruises regularly. Drugs are dealers getting in your pants because they have your next fix and your bank account is at zero. Drugs are walking streets at 3AM alone because you just ran out and now you need to get it, no matter how late or how far you gotta go. Drugs are staying up for days while hallucinating voices not there. Drugs make you not trust a damn Soul, not even yourself. Drugs are doing things you'd never imagine just so you can get high. Drugs put you in the constate state of survival. There is nothing pretty about addiction. It is not an anesthetic; it is a form of self destruction for us ones who just want to numb the pain of our own minds. - S.V.
so i learned a fact about sopor today :)
After watching A Very English Scandal
I can only say that I think Ben Whishaw as Freddie Mercury would have been BLOODY AWESOME!
This man could probably play anything.
Also, AVES gave me very strong Sherlock vibes, the entire style and pacing of it.
So, if somebody ever decides to make that BBC Netflix series...
I hope it will be Stephen Frears.
IT’S LIKE THUNDER! LIGHTNING! THE WAY YOU LOVE ME IS FRIGHTENING!
