Wisconsin might be one of the Democrats’ best bets for maintaining control of the senate in 2022, but I have mixed feelings for the most recent declared candidate.
Alex Lasry, the son of the billionaire owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, is running as a Democrat to fill the open seat left by retiring Republican Ron Johnson. I can’t stress enough that te solution to conservative billionaires running the government is NOT liberal billionaires running the government. We need to get billionaires out of government, period! The solution to a dictatorship is not to install a “good” dictator, it’s to get rid of the dictatorship entirely! We don’t need to reinforce the plutocracy just because some of the oligarchs wear blue ties instead of red ones.
Citizens United was the worst Supreme Couet decision of the century, effectively legalizing bribery and money laundering, paving the way for the Gonad Lump to run in 2016. You have to understand, back then he didn’t actually WANT to win, he ran to revitalize his brand and make headlines; his win was incidental, in no small part because voter turnout was low and the media gave disproportionate attention to third party spoilers. He stood to make a ton of money whether he won or lost, it was a positive feedback loop. Without Citizens United, he wouldn’t have seriously run; his 2016 run would have looked more like his 2012 run, which was out of spite because Seth Meyers and Obama made jokes about him at the Press Correspondents dinner in 2011.
History is a series of dominos, and it’s easy to work backwards and see what causes the cascade to start in the first place. Everything leads to everything else, nothing is random. It’s easy to imagine the what-ifs
