With September rolling in and the seasons swapping sunglasses for a light jacket, Marc Neibauer's "Summer" aptly sums up the aura of the fade into autumn. The Philly native's latest single fits comfortably in between the likes of Yuck and Parquet Courts in its fuzzy, Pavement-esque pop, with longing, wistful verses (with a naggingly familiar hook) giving way to an hazy rush of guitars and big drums. But instead of the usual infallible optimism found in such anthems, Neibauer highlights the fears and doubts we all get around the sunniest time of year, like missing out on those summer adventures everyone feels compelled to have in order to make the most of the season. It's a crafty songwriting trick and it makes "Summer" deserving of repeat plays even as the leaves start to gather on the pavement and snow starts falling.

As the season comes to an end, “Summer” is my look back. Perhaps my most relatable and accessible song to date, “Summer” is about the need for adventure out and the fear of being left behind. A wall of guitars and huge primal drums propel “Summer” and make it’s infectious chorus soar. Yet for all its energy and optimism, “Summer” highlights our simplest doubts. We’re all scared of missing out on something special before the season passes us by.
