85. "Everything Changes/Aftermath/Red"
(Radiant Black # 4-6; May-July 2021)
Everything Changes: 6 🗞️ Kidnapper Newspapers out of 10
The first half of this feels like it lost a lot of steam and uniqueness compared to it's previous issues but after that scuffle with Radiant Red, WOW that was completely unexpected
FAVORITE: this thing looks like Deep Thought decided the answer to life, the universe, and everything was Tron
LEAST FAVORITE: wanton destruction of action figures
Aftermath: 5 🎙️ Podcast Hosts out of 10
It's nice to see differences emerge between the suits right as more folks enter the picture. It's also cool to see someone who isn't just a youth in their prime end up with this kind of power and I'm curious about the extent and differences of Pink and Yellow. I have a sneaking suspicion we won't get to learn much about them
FAVORITE: Rad costume upgrades
LEAST FAVORITE: I think this is more info dump than the Radiants mind-syncing with Existence
Red: 7 🏦 Reverse Foreclosures out of 10
Super glad we finally got Red's story and I love how sympathetic it is! Both Satomi and her partner have a lot of issues they're bringing into their relationship and while it's uncomfortable to read it absolutely feels real
FAVORITE: Wow she was much faster on the learning curve than Nathan
LEAST FAVORITE: Satomi sticking with Owen through this, the foreshadowing justification of doing so

119. “Radiant[s] / <001> / Life and Times”
(Radiant Black # 7 - 9, August- November 2021)
RATING: 6 🗺️ World Tours out of 10 / 5 ☕ Stolen Coffees out of 10 / 9 📱 Topical Insults out of 10
The letters column saying that the Radiant language sounds like dial-up really helps the reading process to go a lot more smoothly. While I was a little concerned about the weird lull that lasted a few issues because of the heavy action focus on top of introducing new characters and giving Marshall his own space to become the protagonist, Issue 9 brought back the depth and energy that made me so immediately fall in love with the series.
Also I scanned the QR code on the podcast poster on the sneaking suspicion that it wasn’t benign set dressing and I applaud the creative team with how clever that was.
FAVORITE: This little nod to the comic’s origin / A shift in tone after several action heavy issues / Loving a friend this much
LEAST FAVORITE: More helmet puke / Stopping fluid leaks / Bursting into an operation
