Wreck, Marcello Toma
My current work is tied to the symbolic value of the mechanical object and to the potent metaphor of the gear wheel seen as a paradigm of the complexity of relationships at the foundation of human experience.

A-Z, Marcello Toma
I like to capture, inside a rigid structure like that of a machine, a sign of life and to equate its mechanical movement, which always stays the same, to a willingness to succeed, to a constant rhythm in search of meaning and to an end other than that of simple production. I see the complex of gear wheels, the way they interlock, each causing the other’s rotation, and creating a force, as a perfect metaphor of our human condition where each individual gains vitality from their relationship with others. The more the gear wheel adds new elements the less the fatigue, the more the movement becomes fluid.
