throughout his life, chilchuck had always been good at tinkering. he was good with his fingers and knew his way around sewing, crafting and dismantling, and for the most part he was good at keeping up with technologies for mechanics. one thing he never really could get much of an understanding of was magic. his kin in general didn't have much mana, so the fewest found any interest in messing around with the arcane, and for him too it was an incomprehensible concept.
so, presented with a mystical device upon arrival, naturally he was cautious. it didn't seem entirely like magic, but no devices he knew of had the function to provide light and pictures in such ways. he wanted to throw it away, but on the odd chance it was cursed with something that would activate under such conditions, that would be a bad idea. thus he had taken to the library, but his search thus far had proven rather difficult.
putting his frustrations and pride aside, he'd need to ask for help on this one. and a patron at a nearby table had caught his attention. the guy seemed to be an elf even if a bit of an odd one, but chilchuck wasn't sure how else to categorise the other. honestly, there was something about the vibe that unsettled him, but when it came to magic, nobody were more knowledgeable than elves. so he swallowed his unease and walked over, presenting the device.
"sorry, but... would you mind telling me what this thing does? i've been trying to look up curses and magic devices, but honestly i just don't know my way around it well enough to get it."
