"DIVING INTO THE SUBCONSCIOUS"
by Joel Artista, Chris Soria, and Marc Evan
Following an Ad Hoc Art brainstorming meeting across town in a Bushwick gallery Poland's M-City endured NYC in December, 2009 to paint the first mural in Astoria's Welling Court, and by the following Summer Ad Hoc was ready to host the first full-blown Welling Court Mural Project event. In 2016 for the 7th annual event the nomadic Joel Bergner, aka Joel Artista—who has worked on murals everywhere from U.S. juvenile detention centers to Syrian refugee camps, and in shantytowns in Kenya, India, and Brazil—was joined by Chris Soria, and “Maniac Pumpkin Carver” Marc Evan in creating an underwater scene as a metaphor for exploration of the subconscious. Artista says "his favorite thing about working with these guys is the way our styles flow seamlessly, as we understand and respect each other’s styles." @joelartista @chrissoria @marcmaniac @wellingcourtmuralproject @streetartcities
