the sun sets, crimson red-bleeding across the sky. wordsmiths would describe it with words of fire or blood; boy thinks it’s too repetitive. he thinks he might have seen the sunset twice in a day, or at least the bloodspills of it.
“sorry ‘m late. didja see the news?” the bells chime loudly at his entrance, rabbits scampering at the noise before recognizing the boy, cautiously hopping closer, noses twitching. theo picks up a choice two, cradles them in his arms and sits atop the counter ashley was working on, stray limbs dangerously close to knocking whatever brew the other was working on as he crosses his legs.
“tried to sneak in a coupla burnt hairs in my pocket for you - or maybe a piece of the stained glass or one of ‘em shiny cross necklaces - almost got one, y’know! but then, y’know. the police.” he shrugs, grinning. “they told me i had to put it back and fill out some forms ‘nd stuff at the station - can y’believe it? i told ‘em that i didn’t wanna be late for dinner, but they didn’t wanna help me spell out a coupla words to finish the papers faster, so it’s not my fault, really - “
