March polyglot challenge: travel vocabulary, off the top of my head

Vocabulary list in English, Spanish, Hungarian and Croatian - aka involving all languages I actively use and study.

travel/journey = el viaje / az utazás / putovanje

to travel = viajar / utazik / putovati

passport = el pasaporte / az útlevél / putovnica

border = la frontera / a határ / granica

suitcase = la maleta / a bőrönd / kofer

luggage = el equipaje / ? (the only word that comes to mind now is a cucc(aim) “stuff” - slang, also means drugs) / prtljaga

to book a place to stay = reservar ? / szállást foglal / rezervirati smještaj

flight = el vuelo / a repülőjárat / let

one-way ticket = el billete de ida / a menetjegy / jednosmjerna karta

return ticket = el billete de ida y vuelta / az oda-vissza jegy / povratna karta

tourist = el/la turista / a turista / turist

adventurer = el aventurero / a kalandozó / pustolov

expedition = la expedición / az expedíció / ekspedicija

Maybe it would be useful/interesting to say that

- both Spanish and Hungarian use definite and indefinite articles, while Croatian doesn’t have them

- the dictionary form of Hungarian verbs is 3rd person singular of the present tense, not the infinitive form!

I want to do the March Polyglot Challenge

but I can’t think of many places to ‘travel’ to besides Germany...

any suggestions??

March Polyglot Challenge!

Get ready to pack your bags and hit the metaphorical highway! 

It doesn’t take a private jet, fifty thousand in cold, hard cash or an all-expense paid dream vacation to experience wherever your target language is spoken. Thanks, books and the internet! And this March, it’s time to channel those hours of daydreaming about adventuring abroad (let’s face it, everybody does it) into a fun-filled, motivation-boosting language learning challenge!

Your task: 

To plan an imaginary trip to a village, town, city, country, any place - or places - where your target language is spoken... and be creative about it.  There’s no limit to the trip - it can be as long as you’d like. But don’t just make a list of place names and buildings you’d see: write little blurbs about the history of where you’d go, the cultural hotspots, whatever stands out to you. You can handwrite a detailed notebook with all your travel plans, test out cultural food you’d have on your trip in your own kitchen, learn the vocab that any travel-savvy tourist would need to know and much much more! 

How to do this:

watch travel videos that explore a specific city, country or tourist site

read travel writing about what others have experienced in your destination

learn all about the main tourist attractions and what makes them so popular

check the culture news section of the news or city websites in your target language for ongoing and upcoming events

pick dishes you’d love to try out, beaches you’d love to swim at, language schools you’d love to attend, etc.

What if I have more than one target language?:

You can choose to focus on as many of your target languages as you would like. Or just one. It’s your call.

*Bonus task*: Create short profiles of the attractions you explore with some key facts and links to documentaries or the attraction’s website so that other langblrs can explore each destination themselves!
