Bedeuten vs Meinen
These two words are translated into English as ‘to mean’ and cause some confusion, so this quick post is just going to clarify the difference.
1. Meinen: to mean in the sense of ‘to intend to be so’ - people can mean to say something in this sense. e.g. Was meinst du (what do you mean)?
2. Bedeuten: to mean as in ‘to signify’ - words and facts can mean something in this sense e.g. Was bedeutet das Wort (what does that word mean)?
heißen can also be used, almost interchangeably (there is a small difference) for bedeuten - seen most clearly with “das heißt/d.h.” (”that is/i.e.” in Englisch).
So essentially people can meinen but words/facts bedeuten.

Hello! So, I’ve researched some Christmas music in different languages. Some have a lot, like, too much so I narrowed it down, and some don’t have that much, but I found the best I could. Some are similar songs to what English speakers and Americans are used to such as “jingle bells” etc etc, while others are their own original seasonal songs. How many fucking places do you need to get drunk?!?!

most villages i know have way more pubs than all their shops combined
The thing is, pubs are not just places to get drunk.
In many small towns they are the only place to get a meal that is not fast food without cooking it yourself. Even in larger towns they can have the best food.
They’re where you go to play darts, sing karaoke, play trivia.
They’re where you go to meet people to talk to - and no, not just people you might want to hook up with. When I was in college, regular department lunches, students and professors alike, happened…in the back room of a nearby pub. We’d get pies, one beer, and discuss the stuff we didn’t get to in class.
Pubs are places where the bartender knows your name, and where exchanges like “We’re out.” “I’ll have the other one.” are fully understood. Seriously, some people will walk into their “local” and their drink will be poured and on the bar before they get to it.
Yes, there’s alcohol, and absolutely some people go to the pub to get drunk. But a pub is not the same thing as a bar.
Pubs fall into the “third space” that is neither home nor work. In America, we had this little thing happen called Prohibition.
Alcohol became something you had to sneak.
A place to get a drink became a place to get a drink. It was the speakeasy. It was the den of vice.
The role of the pub was taken over by the coffee house.
So, Americans, don’t think of the British pub as a sports bar (where you go to watch a game), or as a regular bar (where you go to get drunk), or a bar and grill (a restaurant with good beer).
Think of it as a coffee shop that sells alcohol. As that vital third place.
And then you might understand why Britain has so many of them. (Britain does have coffee shops too, mind, but they don’t get turned into the third place in the same way as here, although Costa still way beats Starbucks).

one of my dad’s cousins (”cousins,” they were in the same bracket of loosely-related like-age kids running around the street the whole family lived on in london, whenever my dad’s immediate family was living in england.) and his wife (who has since died) opened a pub in the tiny town my dad was born in when london and the dependents on the american air base were evacuated because of the blitz. pubs are a THING, man.
I’ve said this before and I’ll point it out again -

If you are a dude and don’t dig the ladies around you at their time of the month, just think! That is you all of the time.
And, on a final note, post-menopausal (cis) women are the most hormonally stable of all human demographics. They have fewer hormonal fluctuations of anyone, meaning older women like Hilary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren would theoretically be among the least likely candidates to make an irrational decision due to hormonal fluctuations, and if we were basing our leadership decisions on hormone levels, then only women over fifty should ever be allowed to hold office.

During WWII, Irena got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive. Irena smuggled Jewish infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried. She also carried a burlap sack in the back of her truck, for larger kids. Irena kept a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises. During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. Ultimately, she was caught, however, and the Nazi’s broke both of her legs and arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she had smuggled out, In a glass jar that she buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and tried to reunite the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted. In 2007 Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.

I’m with the first guy. Brands are designed to be recognized. You can’t help that. But unless you’re using plants in your field or are just a big nature nerd there will rarely be a need for you to recognize every plant by their foliage.

Forcing him to spend every moment with you
Belittling him and pointing out all his flaws

Being emotionally manipulative and crying until he does what you want
Accusing him of cheating every time he’s not with you
Blow up is phone if he doesn’t text you every five minutes
Telling him you are the must thing that has ever happened to him and no one else will love
Physically attacking him when ever you are mad
Forcing him to have sex despite that fact that he said he didn’t want to
Invading his privacy by going through his phone
Getting mad at him for changing his password and demanding he tell you what it is
If a guy did any of these things to a girl it would be considered abuse but since its the other way around its considered normal. Throughout High school I saw many girl treating their boyfriends like shit. Sometime even physically abusing them in the hallways and no one trying to stop it because its a girl attacking a boy.

Women/young girls can definitely be just as abusive. I knew a young man that got ran over and had his leg broken by his girlfriend because (in her words he annoyed her) He refused to press charges. Another young lady started to hit her ex boyfriend because he wouldn’t take her back because of the abuse. He called the cops on her and they literally started laughing at him because she was very petite in comparison to him. Anyone can be abusive and I wish more people understood that.
