Album Cover Of The Year! (Editor’s Choice)
~By Billy Goate~
I'm ignorant of any backstory of the cover art that dons Marche Funèbre's 'Einderlicht' (2020). Brooke Shaden has captured something that almost defies explanation, yet if I were to poll each of you right now I'm certain that you will have formed an immediate and visceral feeling about it. It is less a rapture, more a release.
The band did share a tad bit more with Breathing The Core, remarking:
We have been working with Brooke Shaden since our first album 'To Drown' (2011, Shiver records), and on every full-length we used a picture from her portfolio. This time we bought the image "Rapt" a few years ago, just because it is so powerful. So no commissioned artwork, just a great work of art that goes along great with the mood of the album.
And what a perfect choice it was, for it visually captures the fear, uncertainty, sorrow, and anger in all of us that so desperately needed release. Many of us found it in the soulful doom metal and acid-soaked stoner rock of 2020. It is Doomed & Stoned's Album Cover of The Year.

Let’s continue our special Chopin Week, here at Musica in Extenso. Since the launching of this blog, we featured a big number of composers, but somehow we never talked about the polish writer. Now it feels really comforting to listen such a beautiful music. For today’s selection I choose Marche funèbre, played by the famous french-cypriot pianist and composer, Cyprien Katsaris.
Today on Musica in Extenso:
Frédéric Chopin
Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 35: III. Marche funèbre - Lento)
