Hey all! I am desperate to sell some art! I am living in Portugal without papers and things are rough! These pieces are 80 dollars each but I am definitely willing to negotiate, so dm me if you want to. You can get the pieces at my shop at marcherarrant.bigcartel.com . Thank you so much even just for reading this!!! Below is a description of the pieces and what the project is all about, and there is more description in my shop.
The first week I moved to Portugal I got caught painting. No big deal, I've been caught in France and Spain and things are way chiller here than the states. It was, though , one more problem on top a million others. My hope was to change when I came here to be with my girlfriend. But week one I was drunk on whisky and Benzos and getting caught painting.
I've overcome many roadblocks since being here and have many more to go. My my art is as much about what I do the art on, such as the maps I use, as it is about the art itself. To me the police papers represent roadblocks, and doing art on them represents overcoming those roadblocks.
I use some new symbols in these pieces which are dear to me and hopefully others too once you learn about them. Everything about my art is tied into books I love and which inspire me to keep on. The Helmet of Mambrino is Don Quixote's helmet. It is a washbasen he thought was a sacred Relic hahaha. He inspires me so much. A major roadblock for me as I get older is to continue to spend my whole life walking and painting. It's so ridiculous to continue this unprofitable life hahaha, it's crazy really, and scary truly. But Don Quixote followed his crazy unprofitable dreams and to me he is a hero and that is why I use that symbol.
The numbers 34 and 23. Chapter 23 from Moby Dick is a one page chapter, you can read it online for free. My favorite book chapter ever. Bulkington represents what Hubert Dreyfus (His Moby Dick lectures on YouTube are Phenomenal!) calls heroic nihilism. My greatest roadblock has been finding meaning. I lose Faith's like others lose loose change hahaha. My path, my art, is about finding ways to keep on despite no meaning, that's what 23, Bulkington, means to me. 34 means March (3rd month) 4(th). And it is The count of Monte Christo's prisoner number. After the worst betrayal and despair he kept on.
