The Ohio University Marching 110 and the Ohio State University Marching Band performed a combined halftime show at today's game, blending the styles of these two top collegiate marching bands.
Here is Play That Funky Music with drumbreak as performed at skull session.
The Ohio University Marching 110 rehearsing for the MAC Championship Game at the Glass Bowl stadium on the campus of the University of Toledo, 12/2/2022. Ohio and Toledo will meet tomorrow at Ford Field in Detroit for the game, where the Ohio Bobcats hope to earn their first Mid-American Conference championship since 1968.
The band is in the signature Diamond Ohio formation from the pregame show. On the backfield sideline, the University of Toledo band is preset. The bands will be combining for the performance of the national anthem before the start of the game. Photo from ohiomarching110 on Instagram.
Oh yeah, so I made a second pilgrimage to the Big Band Barn this year to see the Marching 110 perform in exhibition at Bands of America Grand Nationals. It was actually my first time seeing a 110 field show outside of Homecoming and it was a blast seeing the band getting such an enthusiastic response from a crowd that’s more used to competition style. The band finished their performance by playing a combined number with United Sound, an organization that pairs student musicians and mentors of all abilities with the goal of providing inclusive music education experiences. It’s such an excellent musician and I was tearing up with pride from seeing the 110 participate in that. You can see photos on United Sound’s facebook here.
As for the competing bands, I was glad to watch a couple members of my corps perform, and one of our staff members was working with another band as well.
Photo credit for the first pic goes to @miseriathome, who, when asked to buy me a coke, decided to get the souvenir cup. I decided I am obligated to keep the Lucas Oil Stadium souvenir cup, plus, if they ever raise the price, then it was smart to get one now. It was also way too cold out. It was like 70 out on Thursday before we left, I almost packed shorts, and we woke on Saturday to find that it was snowing. Seeing the Summer Band Place be snowy is surreal.

My understanding, as an alum, is that this band has been making the most out of difficult circumstances, and that they’ve been a model for how to safely conduct a virtual/hybrid season. The field commander elaborates here:
Not everyone in the band is on campus (therefore, not everyone is on the field), and members were freely given the option to skip the 2020 season. Either way, 2020 does not count against a member’s five years of eligibility. Also either way, I cannot be more proud of the best that OHIO has to offer.
In honor of 2020 Homecoming being, uh, virtual, here’s a pic I took my super-senior year of Peden being illuminated by the then-brand new video board.
I miss this place now more than ever
