When ADD shows up in music composition: Theme and variations. Can you count how many variations? Dedicated to the late Professor Wallace Clark In the Spring of 1997, I was in the music history class taught by the late Professor Wallace Clark. At the beginning of the semester, he lectured on Mozart and introduced the class to his 12 Piano Variations on "Ah vous dirais-je, Maman" Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (K. 265 / K. 300e) (1781 or 1782). Professor Clark jokingly challenged the class stating that if anyone could write four variations on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, including the theme, they would receive an A for the semester, and they would not have to report to class for the remainder of the semester. I took the challenge seriously and immediately took to writing and ended up with over 20 variations. I recorded the music and brought in the printed music to the next class. I will never forget his blank stare at the music and look when I played the recording. He apparently did not expect anyone to try to take the challenge or even worry about having to keep his word regarding an A letter grade. He looked over the sheet music and stated, "I see you have more variations than Mozart, but where is the fugue." It was clear to me that he was trying to get out of his "deal." He did not expect anyone to take him seriously. However, for the next class meeting I returned with the addition of a fugue and more "zany" variations which included a cadenza for the heck of it. I always had a sense of humor. I brought in copies of the music for the class as he dared and brought in an audio cassette tape of composition. Class ended early that day. Rest in peace Professor Clark. You were an inspiration and a passionate teacher. My daughter Aria can watch the movie "Frozen" on repeat. She loves the music. The songs have become more than annoying. Aria wanted to sing the "Frozen" while I played on the piano. So, like any good dad, I decided to get to the studio, and orchestrate/arrange my own version of some of these frozen songs. Music custom made for my baby with some added ignorance that probably should have been in the original. Of course the oboe is featured.
Aria turns 3 today everything is shut down and we are SNOWED IN!!!! Do we have to watch "Frozen" again for the 341234183753 time? I DO NOT WANT TO BUILD A SNOWMAN. I think I had "ADHD in HD" from just grade school to undergrad... I suppose? When ADD shows up in music composition:

Thomas Edison or Nikolai Tesla
Thomas Edison or Nikolai Tesla
I always had a passion for science and history.
Science in the present creates history. You cannot change history!
When I was in elementary school, Thomas Edison was science hero. My first book report was on Edison. He had an organ in his Menlo Park laboratory to play music for workers during meals and breaks. Clearly Google and Apple were inspired by this productive employee work environment model. Nikolai Tesla and Edison worked together and later parted ways due to their different personalities. When I got older, I learned more historical facts that were never in my report.
Nikolai Tesla was the real pioneer of electricity. He had a brilliant project that would have made electric power FREE using his AC (alternating current) system. However, greed and politics saw no profit in free electricity and cut funding for Tesla's project ending his career. He died alone and in poverty. Tesla was not able to turn his ideas into products for profit as Edison was. Many others took Tesla's work and ideas for themselves to gain commercial wealth and success.
In science, it is expected that individuals will expand on the work of those who came before them. In the arts, this is called plagiarism. In popular music, it can be referred to as sampling. Without a patent or copyright, you can expect a lawsuit. Does the protection of intellectual property cripple innovation and progress? Does the innovation cast a shadow over the inventors aboriginal creation?
"Let the future tell the truth and evaluate each one according to his work and accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine." - Tesla
Maybe he did not die poor and alone after all, if you look at it from his point of view. Google him! You cannot change history!
I cannot wait until I get my Tesla Model X.

Could not sleep. Not because of the Super Bowl. 2014 was tough. Then came 2015, and at the start of the first week was nothing but storms, chaos, hardships and suffering for people I really care about. Why? Then this song. But, I keep hearing this song and melody in my head. Why? I can not get this song out of my mind this month for some reason. So I decided to make a few of my own versions/covers of it. I never paid attention to the words. HE wants it ALL. I don't understand the plan, but I am still on the path. In that, I won't lose. Lord you have ALL of me. There's a voice that cries out in the silence Searching for heart that will love him Longing for child that will give him their all Give it all, he wants it all And there's a God that walks over the earth He's searching for heart that is desperate And longing for child that will give him their all Give it all, he wants it all And he says, love me, love me with your whole heart He wants it all today Serve me, serve me with your life now He wants it all today Bow down, let go of your idols He wants it all today, he wants it all today He wants it all today He wants it all There's a God that walks over the earth He's searching for heart that is desperate Longing for child that will give him their all Give it all, he wants it all And he says, love me, love me with your whole heart He wants it all today Serve me, serve me with your life now He wants it all today Bow down, let go of your idols He wants it all today, he wants it all today He wants it all today He wants it Oh, oh, oh, all of you, more of you Wants it all today oh, oh, oh (whole thing whole thing) Today, today He wants it all today, he wants is all today So give it all There's a voice that cries out in the silence Searching for heart that will love him Longing for child that will give him their all Give it all He wants it all
