MARCH MADNESS MARATHON Floppy Week! March 8: Kieron Gillen’s Young Avengers If I didn’t know I was bi before reading this series, I definitely knew after. Loki, now 12 years old assembles the recently retired Young Avengers to defeat a hyper dimensional threat that the adult heroes are unable to fight. This is possibly one of the queerest books Marvel has ever put out and it’s one of my favourite runs of all time with one of my favorite teams. Who’s on this team you ask? Scarlet Witch’s twins, WICCAN (Billy) and SPEED (Tommy), HULKLING, Billy’s half skrull/half kree prince boyfriend, PRODIGY, Tommy’s super smart mutant boyfriend, AMERICA CHAVEZ, an awesome Latina that punches through realities, MARVEL BOY, a gun-slinging alien himbo who loves pop music and the token straight person, Kate Bishop: HAWKEYE. If you are part of the LGBT+ community AND a comic book reader, who loves reality warping romps and unorthodox storytelling then this is essential reading! MARCH MADNESS MARATHON March 25: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya The anime that launched a thousand moe anime. I love the premise of this show so much. It’s traaaaaaagic. Also, there’s apparently an entire season I didn’t know existed which explains why when anyone talked about THE ENDLESS EIGHT, I was confused. How could I have missed 8 episodes in a 13 episode run? I guess I’ll be busy today. Also, hearing Crispin Freeman play a high school student and not play a violence obsessed vampire or a gruff anti hero is bizarre and I love it. MARCH MADNESS MARATHON March 21: Sailor Moon (Dic Dub) Serena. Amy. Raye. Lita. Mina. Darien. Rini. Molly. Melvin. And MAXFIELD MOTHER FRACKIN STANTON HAHAHAH! This is why I can’t watch Crystal or the new dub. I like those names lol Anywho, I almost didn’t put this on the list and then I realized I’m writing a magical girl comic and that didn’t come out of nowhere. I loved Sailor Moon. I mean I loved any show with a team of heroes, but Sailor Moon was neat because Serena sucked and the show was basically her journey toward not sucking which is VERY relatable. Plus, her friends were dope. Mars and Jupiter were my faves followed by Uranus. I remember watching up until the Sailor Saturn arc and then they stopped showing episodes. No wait .... Pegasus.... that’s when I stopped watching. That makes more sense. But yeah, like most, I like what I grew up with. Change is uncomfortable and if it’s necessary then you change with the times, but Sailor Moon is something that belongs in my past, so complaining about it now is kinda of pointless. I love it in all its corniness and Americanization. Coulda done without the gay erasure though. MARCH MADNESS MARATHON March 18: Princess Jellyfish Love this show and how pure it is. It’s a fun one. Also, the most positive depiction of a drag queen I’ve ever seen in an anime that’s also a main character, so that’s fun. MARCH MARATHON MADNESS March 15: MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM WING Come on. You need at least ONE mecha anime on your list and depending on what you’re into it’s either Gundam Wing, Gurren Lagan or both. (Or Gundam Seed, but you’re wrong) I wish I could say that as a preteen I found this series’ look at war and politics intriguing as it was the first time I had been exposed to any of these things, but I’m being completely honest I was in it for the pretty boy problems. This show is basically about a boy band trying to stop a war with giant robots. And I loved me some boy bands. God bless Scott McNeil for bringing DUO MAXWELL, one of my favorite anime characters of all time to life, Ocean Group for one of my favorite dubs and thank you Sunrise for all the pretty people. March Madness Marathon March 13: My Hero Academia How can I not love all these good boys and girls? This show is so pure and lovely taking plot points from shonen past and turning them on their heads. I greatly appreciate the first 2 and a half seasons we’ve gotten from this greatness ....
