You and Marcus both knew that by joining King’s Dominion, your lives would be anything but normal. That being said, if anyone would’ve told you that you and Marcus would be sprinting through the dark alleyways of San Francisco for your lives at 2 a.m on a Tuesday morning, you would’ve called them insane. But there wasn’t time to think about the crazy situation you were in, your main priority at the moment was survival.
You and Marcus were practically in sync, flying past the familiar run-down tents and sleeping bags the two of you had once called home. Behind you, screaming and yelling, was Rory. To say your plan had gone wrong would have been an understatement. Rory was a cold-blooded killer and you and Marcus were given the task of killing someone who deserved it, so naturally, Rory had seemed like the perfect choice. But, he had seen the two of you, leading to him chasing you through the city.
Marcus stumbled a little, slowing down, to stop himself from face planting.
“Come’re boy!” Rory yelled, getting closer and closer to Marcus.
“Marcus, come on!” You panted, grabbing his wrist and pulling him along. You turned left, skidding to a stop as you saw the large fence blocking your exit, “No, no, no,” you whispered anxiously, glancing behind you for another way out, but it was too late. Rory was too close to go back the way you had come and there was no where else to go. You ran over to the fence, trying to grab ahold of it and climb it, but it was useless. You were screwed.
“Uhhh, Marcus?” You said nervously, watching Rory slowly approach, laughing coldly as he spun a knife in his hand, “Any ideas?”
“I dunno,” he said frantically with wide eyes, “I’ve never really done this before!”
“Yeah,” you muttered, “Me neither, but we better figure something out quick,”
Rory was only a few feet away now, the smell alcohol radiating off of him, “I remember you two,” he announced, taking a few steps closer, “You were always a pain in my ass,” he growled.
Your eyes scanned the ground, looking for anything to protect yourself with. “What do you want?” Marcus spoke up, putting an arm out in front of you protectively.
“What do I want?” Rory twirled the knife in his hand once more, “You two are the ones that came here look’n for trouble,” He grumbled, pointing the knife at Marcus.
“Alright...” Marcus coaxed, pitting his hands in the air, “We’ll leave,” You gave him a confused look, it was out of character for Marcus to run away from a fight. He took a few more steps forward, only inches away from Rory.
“You’re not getting of that easy-” Rory was interrupted by Marcus’s fist crashing into his jaw. Rory groaned in pain, stumbling back. Marcus grabbed your hand, pulling you behind him as he took off running. But Rory recovered quickly, grabbing a fistful of your hair and yanking you out of Marcus’s grip. Rory shoved you down to the ground, your head smacking the hard pavement.
You winced, putting a hand to your head as you tried to blink the black spots out of your vision. You watched through your blurry vision as Rory lunged at Marcus, grabbing him by the collar. “Marcus,” you groaned, looking for anything around that you could use to fight back. Your eyes finally landed on a rusty pipe sitting by a few piles of trash. You crawled over to it, your head throbbing with every move you made. Finally, you managed to grab it. You used it as a crutch to help yourself to your feet, turning your attention back to Rory and Marcus. Rory has Marcus pinned against a wall, knife pressed to his throat.
You limped towards Rory and raised the pipe above your head, Marcus’s eyes went wide. Everything happened so quickly. Before you could think about what you were doing, you sent the metal crashing down onto Marcus’s attacker’s head. Something splattered across your face and there was a sickening crack, then Rory dropped to the ground. The second it happened you knew. Something deep down told you that he was dead.
You froze, staring in shock at what you had done.
“Y/N! Y/N, are you okay?” You could hear Marcus calling your name, his hands running across your skin trying to make sure you weren’t hurt, but he sounded far away. Your surroundings melted away, leaving you and your thoughts alone with the sickening scene in front of you.
You let the pipe clatter to the floor and dropped to your knees, “I... I-” you stammered your stare locking onto your blood-splattered hands, “I killed him,”
Marcus crouched down beside you, “Y/N, it’s okay,” Marcus tried to get you to focus on him, telling you over and over that it wasn’t your fault- but it was. You hit him, how could it not be your fault?
“I killed him,” you repeated again, “Marcus, he’s dead... because of me,”
“It’s not your fault-”
A sudden wave of nausea came over you, “I’m gonna be sick,” Less then a second later you were bent over, spewing all of your stomach’s contents across the cold black pavement. Marcus was quick you pull your hair back and wrap an arm around your shoulder, keeping you close until your stomach was out of things to throw up.
You took a shaky breath, tears rolling down your cheeks, “I killed him Marcus... I killed him... I’m a murderer,”
Marcus gently grabbed your chin, making you look at him, “You’re not a murderer, Y/N. You saved my life, it was defense,” he said calmly, “And it’s not like he didn’t have it coming,” he added.
You didn’t respond, turning your head and looking at the horrific scene you had made.
Marcus stood up, pulling you up as well, “Don’t do that to yourself,” He tried to distract you from the horrible sight, “Come on, Y/N, let’s go back,”
He slowly dragged you away, you couldn’t shift your gaze from the Rory’s body, “We... we have to get rid of him-”
“I’ll do it later,” Marcus reassured, pulling you closer to him, “Let’s just get you home,”
You nodded numbly, letting Marcus lead you back to the academy. What had you done?
