Also is it generally considered offensive if I'm playing around with spells if I'm not sure if I believe in the magic behind it, so long as I am careful and respectful of what I'm doing? I.e. I only cast simple helpful spells and don't mess around with anything that could cause harm.

I don’t find it offensive. I sometimes look at magic like a science project or a DIY project. Did it work? How well did it work? What could I tweak to make it work better?

However, I am an agnostic secular witch so religious praxis and whatnot don’t really work for me. I am a fan of starting small for most things. Build your own foundation and read about how other people built their foundation. Also, if you can, document everything you do. That way you can use it again if it works or chuck it if it doesn’t.

What's your opinion on wild animals that hunt other wild animals? How do you view that as being different than how we hunt/kill animals? (This is just out of curiosity and interest in your personal opinion, not meant as anything argumentative.)

Firstly, they're doing it for survival. I have no problem with someone stranded on a deserted island killing a chicken to survive. When it comes to survival I don't expect you to put anyone before yourself.

Secondly, it's their instinct to kill - so much so that cats for example will catch a mouse just to basically torture and kill it without eating it. But cats are not self-proclaimed moral beings.

We are. We (most of us) know (mostly) when something is right or wrong. Doesn't matter where you go, you start beating a terrified child in the street, people will tell you to stop. Can't you see you're hurting him? That's empathy. I don't know what sort of evolutionary advantage such a strong sense of empathy gives us, but I guess it doesn't matter. We're stuck with the ability to put ourselves in someone else's shoes. And if a person feels nothing when someone else is hurting, we know there's something wrong with that person.

At least for me, I mean... Can you think of anything scarier than someone who is not moved at all when faced with terrible pain and suffering? And if the suffering is the suffering of a non-human animals... Do you really think they can just "turn it back on" when it's a human?

But anyway, I know morals are made up. I know the universe doesn't have an absolute right and wrong. People always remind me of this when we're in an argument. They'll say "I know we're exploiting animals and causing misery and suffering and death, but you can't say it's "wrong", that's a man-made concept. There is no such thing as right or wrong." God, that grates on my nerves like nothing else. That sort of forced nihilism, I-read-this-on-"I fucking love science"-and-anyway-I'm-not-human-I'm-a-robot kind of attitude. Are you willing to apply that brilliant deduction to any other aspects of your life? Because if nothing is wrong, I'm guessing the only thing stopping you from murdering, raping and torturing people is the possibility of prison. If yes, then ok, great talk, I'm getting the hell out of here. If no, then you're incapable of removing empathy from your thoughts and reasoning, and you therefore have no right to disregard it in any scenario.
