okay so maretropolis fluttershy. she's pretty much the same character in maretropolis but i'm giving her new hair just because i can
on the left is the old short haircut i gave her that was going to appear in maretropolis. it was originally made for this fluttershyreplies post. i'm not so crazy about it anymore
to the RIGHT is the new hairstyle that will probably actually appear in the comic. it's a bit messier, more natural, and thicker, PLUS it covers one eye so that's great for a shy character. it's inspired by luna's season one hairstyle and this adorable piece of fanart, among other things
Twilight: I'm sorry, Rainbow, I promised everyone I wouldn't do this! They didn't want me to be the one to wake you up, but I told them I could keep myself together, and--and I--
Rainbow: It's okay, Twilight.
Rainbow bites her tongue and hides the fact that Twilight is making her uncomfortable.
After a few tearful moments, Twilight lets go of Rainbow. A sparkling pink aura removes her glasses so she can wipe her eyes.
Rainbow: Sooo...I hate to change the subject, but uh, can you tell me what's up with these robo parts? These are yours, right?
Twilight: Oh...yes, I should explain those properly.
Twilight pauses to take a few deep breaths and regain her composure.
Twilight: After your...accident, you were left in pretty bad condition. Queen Celestia gathered the finest doctors in Equestria to get you back to normal. After all, she needs all six of us around to use the Elements of Harmony. Plus, Celestia sort of considers the six of us friends of hers, so she didn't take the news of your accident so well. Anyway, the doctors could only do so much. As you can probably tell, some parts were--um, let's say, beyond repair. And your chances of surviving were slim.
Twilight: That's when I had an idea.
Twilight's face lights up as she moves on to the next part of the story.
Twilight: With my expertise in robotics, I volunteered to build you a new set of prosthetic limbs to replace the ones you'd lost. No one had ever succeeded in making such advanced prosthetics before, but it was the only shot we had at bringing you back, so I took that chance.
Twilight: I adapted your new limbs from the LD-0.307p android prototype I've been working on. I would have waited and given you the limbs of the final model, but...well, you didn't have much time left. And besides, adapting the legs to be controlled by neural impulses rather than a CPU and figuring out how to attach them to your body took up all of my time. So I did what I could. And judging from that jump of yours, it looks like I did a pretty good job, huh?
Rainbow laughs nervously.
Twilight: That was terrible, I'm sorry. I shouldn't be joking about this.
Rainbow: Nah, don't sweat it, Twi.
Rainbow's nonchalance doesn't make Twilight feel any less ashamed about her little joke.
Twilight: ...Anyway, the legs are powered by a removable magic battery in your new left flank. You see that circle? That's the access panel.
Rainbow stares at her new left front leg. Twilight's words don't seem to be phasing her.
Twilight: Rainbow? Are you still listening?
Rainbow continues staring at her mechanical leg for a few moments, then suddenly remembers she's being spoken to.
Rainbow: Oh, sorry. This is just a lot to take in all at once.
Twilight: It's fine, Rainbow. Do you want me to slow down?
Rainbow: No, let's just get all this technical stuff over with.
Rainbow: So what if I take the battery out? Or if it runs out of power?
Twilight: The battery's charge should last over a year, but you also have three internal backup batteries that can give you power for about two weeks each. So even when the main battery is recharging, you'll be fine. Which is kind of important, since your power supply is what's keeping your heart going right now.
Rainbow: Oh jeez. So this stuff is hooked up to my heart?
Twilight: And your brain.
Rainbow: My brain?
Twilight: How did you think you could move those legs?
Rainbow: Oh...duh.
Twilight: All right, I think that pretty much covers the basics. You want me to grab us some breakfast? I'm starving, and I'm willing to bet you're even hungrier than I am.
Rainbow: Sounds good to me.
Twilight stands up and trots out of the room. Before closing the door, she double checks to make sure Rainbow isn't preparing for another hasty leap of faith. Her friend remains seated by the window, staring at her new legs with a puzzled look on her face.
