Margaret Tudor’s Journey to Become Queen of Scotland

On July 8, 1503, Princess Margaret Tudor said farewell to her father, Henry VII of England, as she departed England for Edinburgh to marry James IV of Scotland. The marriage was arranged to strengthen peace between England and Scotland and would later have a profound impact on the future of the British monarchy.

Among those accompanying Margaret on her journey was Thomas Boleyn, a rising courtier whose daughter would later become the famous queen of Henry VIII. Margaret’s marriage created a royal connection that eventually helped unite the English and Scottish crowns through her descendants.

(sorry for answering this so late! by the time I saw it i was going to sleep. and then I woke up & had work so…here we are…)

1. Do you have a passion project? What is it?

I’m really passionate about cooking and cocktail-making!! I love coming up with my own recipes/creations (especially with cocktails bc I have a passion for using fresh ingredients/themed drinks). I’m gonna be starting a food photography course in 2 weeks so I hope to build up those skills so I can start my official food (/travel) blog.

9. What was your favourite subject in school?

History & art history for sure! In a strange twist (although this leant itself to my career), I also absolutely loved my AP Bio class back in high school & public health courses in general. 

11. Which historical figure fascinates you and why?

Currently, I’m going through a bit of moment rediscovering/re-examining Henry VIII (thanks to @alicehoffmans!), along with the women of Louis XIV’s court/time (due to binge watching Versailles on Netflix every night since this past weekend).

12. Favourite mythical creature?

mermaids/sirens & the Navagunjara (a creature composed of 9 different animals from the Mahabharata)

On this day in history, 18th of October 1541 Margaret Tudor, Queen Dowager of Scotland died at Methven Castle, Scotland. Born in 1489 she was the eldest daughter of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. She was married thrice, first to James IV of Scotland, then to Archibald Douglas, Earl of Angus and lastly to Henry Stewart, Lord Methven. She had two children from her first two marriages that outlived her: James V and Lady Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox. Two decades following her death, Calvinists stormed her resting place and desecrated her tomb, burning her body and scattering her ashes to the wind. Despite this, Margaret's legacy lived on through both of her offspring whose descendant became King of England after her niece died without leaving any issue. And since then, every English monarch can trace his/her ancestry back to her.

TWP: Henry/Elizabeth lmaooooo, tbh that’s really it.. I guess I hate Margaret/Jasper now bc she killed him but I still get shipping it from before

TWQ: I wanna say Richard/Anne but I used to otp them so i do actually get it. i just rewatch and wonder like, how did i not see that they didn’t belong together? idk. and also Henry/Elizabeth again bc i know people still shipped them from twq [eye roll emoji]

TWP: Henry VII because I just hate him in history anyway and yeah sometimes he’s nice but it doesn’t excuse the shit he does lol, Margaret Beaufort which saddens me SO much because she was a Fav in TWQ. Cecily made me mad for a while too but I understood her motives and now she’s chill

TWQ: probably Henry VII again even though he didn’t really do anything until the end jjkdksjdslkdksa, Maggie B’s mom for mostly obvious reasons, I don’t like Stanley that much, George makes me mad sometimes but I don’t hate him he’s just not my fav

The Tudors: probably Chapuys but i also understand his motives., Edward and Thomas Seymour because. well. because, Thomas Culpepper, the pope jkjkewjaoigjwiegoajgeo

10.) most disliked arc and why?

TWP: well it hasn’t finished yet so i can’t say for sure, but i don’t like anything that Margaret is doing rn. I don’t like where her story is going and i don’t like that Jasper is dead bc that means Henry will do more stupid shit probably

On July 5, 1503, King Henry VII and his court arrived at Collyweston in Northamptonshire to formally see off his daughter, Princess Margaret Tudor. The occasion marked a deeply symbolic moment in Tudor diplomacy, as Margaret prepared to leave England to marry King James IV of Scotland, a union designed to secure peace between the long-hostile kingdoms of England and Scotland.

The farewell at Collyweston was both ceremonial and emotional, reflecting the political weight placed on the marriage alliance. Margaret’s journey north would ultimately reshape the dynastic future of Britain, as her descendants would later unite the crowns of England and Scotland through the accession of James VI and I.
