Die Koffer des Herrn O.F. (1931)
At last, this film has been beautifully restored after I don't know how many years. I would post the entire movie, because it is very amusing, but I ran into a slight copy protection measure on the disc. It's not that I couldn't rip video files from it, as you can see, but the file is deliberately obfuscated with all the scenes out of order. Until I discover a better method to rip the "real" feature, with all scenes in the correct order, it will have to wait. Basically, I don't trust myself to re-edit the entire film, and furthermore I shouldn't have to. However, I did have fun editing a few choice scenes with Peter Lorre and Margo Lion, an adorable onscreen pair who probably had a lot of fun with this production.
Also, that suggestive little joke at the very end? That does not appear in the film. It must have been cut and re-used in a trailer, or else was unearthed from somewhere, and the restoration team threw it on the disc as an extra. Needless to say, I couldn't be happier. 🥰
Risqué Berlin Revue 1928 - Margo Lion and Marlene Dietrich in the musical revue 'Es liegt in der Luft' (It's in the air) of 1928. Both wear a bouquet of violets, which was a code for lesbians and sing the song 'Wenn die beste Freundin mit der besten Freundin' (When the best girlfriend with the best girlfriend)
“Before leaving her native Germany, Marlene Dietrich teamed up with openly bisexual French actress Margo Lion to perform a duet called Sisters, about two girlfriends buying underwear for each other. With Lion as soprano and Dietrich picking up the low register, the number caused quite a sensation.”
