The Austrian Franz Jägerstätter, a conscientious objector, refuses to fight for the Nazis in World War II.

Since it is known how it will lead to, it is not an easy watch. Increasingly so in the second half.

But with authoritarian leaders on the rise all over the world, often demanding blind loyalty, the questions the movie poses are still highly relevant.

It still plays out at his typical, epic pace, but it's nice to again have a Malick movie with a narrative.

Side note, casting lots of renowned German language actors is nice. But then still let them speak English is a bit odd.
