A quote from the formidable Marianne Boruch. Celebrate Nat’l Poetry Month
Chicken, Tomato, Bread and River Styx 97 Now here’s a simple meal. I was going to make a kale salad, but it was easier to just chop up some tomato. And boy was this delicious! I am a longtime fan of River Styx. I was glad to see their long list of supporters on the back page. It’s stunning that folks support literature in that way! That’s a lot of people! Well, and they have a large support staff too: a business manager and a Grants and Outreach Programs Director, etc. At many lit mags, one person is doing all of those tasks.
Mark Wagenaar seems to be everywhere these days! Having a prolific stretch, and getting good work out into the universe. It’s a good lesson for young authors about how to write good work and market good work.
And of course I love anything by Marianne Boruch. Here poem here “Heaven” is such gift! So funny and insightful and timely and thoughtful. I met her at AWP one year and she’s fascinating.
I love the beginning of the Jeff Mock poem: “When I was an elk.”
