Sentimental favourite gymnast of year 2015 by apparatus- Vault

She may not be the best vaulter of the world, she may not have perfect form. But I am immensely proud of her progress and determination.

I do not have high hopes for this gymnasts seeing her sloppy form in 2012 olympic VT EF. In 2013 she fell in both of her vaults in Europeans and her teammate Ksenia outscore her on her best event in Universiade. I personally do not see her value in the Russian team. What can a event specialist bring for the team when she does not excel in her specialist event?

However, Russia is always capable of surprises. Despite injuries, Maria worked hard quietly and let her success make the noise.

2015 is finally the year that Maria shines. She is magical. She flew to Montpellier in the very last minute to replace the injured Alla and shock the world by bringing in a much improved Amanar and Cheng. In the event finals, this gymnasts who fell in both of her vault in her last Euro and who was supposed to be an alternate of the Russian Euro team knocked the defending European Champion Giulia off the top of the podium and took home gold!!!!! She isn’t even supposed to be there and she became a European champion! She is the prove to the famous Chinese quote that “Opportunities and luck are given to those well-prepared”.

As if the European gold medal is not enough, Maria went into the world championships and turned her European title to a world title! Once again, she made the Russian flag rise proud. While standing on the podium, her eyes are filled with tears and so are mine.

I sincerely hope Maria Paseka can improve her form in both of her vault and challenge for the Olympic title.
