30MS SIS-W00 Marical
Marical is one of the newest from the 30MS line, fitting in with the new fantasy theming of Yufia and the Valkyrie outfit. She's themed around a mage or wizard, and has a lot of really cool unique parts usage to give her a very different sillhouette to a lot of the other 30MS kits. I really love her poofy sleeves and bell-bottom leg-warmers and hot pants.
I approached Marical with a fairly simple black and grey panel lining to bring out all the surface detail, adding some fluorescent green detailling to the triangle details on her thighs and biceps to match with the trans-green UV reactive gems on her hat and collar. I put a little extra work into her skin parts, however, with a brown panel line to deepen the details on her ears and face, as well as using one of my new weathering kits to detail her (using some chestnut and blush pigment powder to help her skin look a little more life-like).
I gave all of the black sections an extra thick matte topcoat, which has given them a really unique texture like old leather, and I love how this breaks up the colours into different materials as well.
Just like a lot of the newer 30MS kits, there's no real "armour up" mode. Marical comes with a few acessories, however, including a really nicely designed patchwork wizard hat, a book that can open up, and a staff with a cat-shaped crystal on top. Unfortunately my staff is a little shorter than intended, as i accidentally snapped the very tip of it off, but I don't think it's super noticeable in the end.
Marical's hat slots into the normal 30MS head acessory slot, although it can be a little finnicky to get in place as the connection has a hinge and ball joint to let the hat sit further back or forward on the head. Her book can open and close, and be displayed in either position, although there's nothing to depict writing inside the book.
Included in the kit along with the acessories are 3 sets of expressions. The two open mouthed expressions can be displayed either with or without the teeth visible for a different look (although she looks rather gummy without her teeth). There are 3 sets of hand poses (open, closed, and an open fist for holding the staff), as well as an extra hand option with a peg for holding the book.
I did find that the hinge composition for the elbows is super prone to coming apart when posing, and it's annoying to fix due to the poofy sleeve parts, so keep an eye out for that.
This was overall a very simple build, but I love the level of detail that these newer 30MS kits include, and I especially love how unique the whole thing is, with super interesting shapes used to achieve the final look. Unfortunately I think I've run out of space for 30MS kits, so I'll wait for something really special to come out before revisiting this line.
