What books may I ask?
Not sure which post this is referencing, I just finished "The Guild Hunter series" by Nalini Singh which is about 15 books including her novella compilation book, and it turns out she has another 14 book series called the Psy-Changling series
But if I understand the series synopsis is that this series takes place in world with shifters and feelings are regulated by the government? So I'm hmmmm on this one. I downloaded a sample to see how it goes
An Anthropology major, with a double minor in English Lit and Japanese. Arachnophobic, yet a doting tarantula mum. Never leaves home without her 14k gold cat ring and essential oil diffusing bracelet. Chronically anxious, sometimes mass hair loss occurs because of this. Watches dissection videos, devours nonfiction books, aspiring librarian/curator. Friendly introvert who frequently wears dark/bold lipsticks to strike fear into the hearts of man. Will she survive?
Something is staring back at you– but that’s not fair. It was watching you first, and you caught it looking, and you’ll be damned if you’re the first to blink. It has so very many eyes, one of them will have to giveway soon enough. You’re sure you have the advantage here.
How in the heckle do I keep a spider plant? I’m usually pretty decent with houseplants but this babe I have keeps browning, even the shoot coming out of it has browned.
It could be overwatering or underwatering? They also like a decent amount of sun! I actually haven’t kept a spider plant myself so I can’t be of tooo much help. My mom severely neglects hers and it still seems relatively ok lol. I would check the roots and see if it’s got any issues going on.
All your Fleabag reblogs lead me to pay for an Amazon Video subscription so I could find out what this series is. I am 100% pleased.
OH MY GOD ENJOY THE RIDE!
So, I wont beat around the bush, I am an awful writer. I think I'm decent at reading analysis and verbal discussion, but when it comes to writing I struggle. It's like I'm trying to squeeze blood from a rock. My profs tell me I'm thoughtful, insightful, and I have a strong writers voice, but that I struggle with basic expression. I've gone to get writing help with tutors on campus, but my writing just isn't improving. Do you have any tips from one English student to another?
Lucky for you, tutoring/teaching English essay writing is literally my job. My basic tips would be:
Go through my “academic writing” tag and see if anything jumps out to you.
Keep your sentence structures simple. If a big problem is your expression, then the best thing you can do is keep your sentences short. Try to stick to one subject + one verb + one object basics for the most part. (At least until this stops being a problem.)
Similarly, keep your word choice simple. Contrary to common belief, big words don’t automatically make your expression stronger.
P. E. E. Try to follow “Point. Example. Explanation.” structure. Make sure you provide an example for every point you make, and then make sure you explain it in your own words. That can often be a stumbling block for students trying to actually express their analysis.
PRACTICE. If you’ve been going to see tutors and you still don’t see a difference, then the best thing you can do is practice. I see the biggest changes in students who take this advice and do exercises on their own. Pick a passage you think would be interesting to analyze. Write a few paragraphs on it. Make up an essay question and give yourself an hour and a half to see what you can do with it. Take those practice essays to your tutors and see what new criticism they have. Ask them to pick your individual sentences apart or, if that’s against department policy, then find a friend or (preferably) a private tutor who would be willing to put that much work into your writing! Let them help you get better one sentence at a time.
Best of luck! Getting a hang of essay writing can be a long and frustrating process, but I promise it gets easier the more you do it. That your profs think you’re insightful and good at analysis is already a great starting point!
