Empress Marie Feodorovna Romanova 

b. November 26, 1847

d. October 13, 1928

Marie was born at the Yellow Palace in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her title at birth was Princess Dagmar of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg. She married Alexander III in 1866, at which time she converted to Orthodoxy and took the name Marie Feodorovna. For the rest of her life she was known as Minnie. She and her husband were crowned in 1883. They had six children, the oldest of whom grew up to become Nicholas II, Russia's last tsar. Minnie was popular among the Russian people. She loved parties and stayed out of political business. Alix of Hesse had the misfortune of being her mother in law's opposite, and she was not well received by the people. Minnie left Russia in 1919 and lived the rest of her life at her summer estate in Denmark. She never accepted that her son and his family had been murdered.
