She tries not to think about the cobweb she totally just felt brush against her hand, or the smell of Mari in her nose, so deep it almost burns. “Mari, did you know— I mean, have you ever had your heat before?” Probably better to cut right to the chase, right? Jackie sees Mari freeze out of the corner of her eye, and bites her bottom lip, because oh, right. Jackie is an alpha, and she’d convinced Mari to come here alone with her, and now Jackie’s asking her about heat, and this could look— “Like, not in a weird way,” she rushes out awkwardly, and then, clearing her throat, “Sorry, I just mean— not like that. Not like… Not like this.” OR: Mari’s in pre-heat, and it’s throwing the team off their game. Ever the altruist, Jackie pulls her aside to check in.
