 Days with Kelsey were yellow among the sunflowers.

 Nights with Marielle were orange under the streetlights.

 Sara was seven when she met Kelsey.

 In all her seven years of life, she had never seen anything so beautiful as this tall girl with blue eyes and blonde braids and a white cotton dress, standing in a sunflower field like they were her best buddies. By the end of the summer before third grade, Sara’s yellow and blue pencils had been sharpened down to inch-long stubs.
