Marilyn Minter's "Red Flare" (2018–19) is from 'Women Painting Women,' published by @delmonico_books & @themodernfw “I’m interested in operating as a female voyeur," Minter is quoted by curator Andrea Karnes. "They [her subjects] don’t return the gaze because they go about their lives. They are not posing for Instagram or implying that they are being watched.” Even so, “There is a level of objectification anytime a figure is depicted. Whenever clothing disappears from the human body, it becomes seductive.” Edited with text by Andrea Karnes. Preface by Marla Price. Text by Emma Amos, Faith Ringgold. A talk that we loved today at the @printedmatter_artbookfairs #nyabf2022 — Dissidents of the Gaze, with @marilynminter and @bettytompkinsartnew — presented by @jbebooks At the intersection of desire, feminism, and unseen modes of representation, the works of Betty Tompkins and Marilyn Minter have ceaselessly questioned the rules of representation. Their inscrutable paintings and photographs question contemporary issues around image dissemination, particularly in this age of screens and renewed censorship. #marilynminter #bettytompkins #jbebooks #nyabf #nyabfclassroom https://www.instagram.com/p/Cjs9VYeLDta/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hot book alert! 'Marilyn Minter: All Wet' is featured @i_d @missroseneditions writes: "From the very outset, Marilyn has been at the vanguard, developing a new iconography of the female gaze, one that was equal parts seductive, sensual, and subversive. With the publication of her latest book, 'All Wet ( @jbebooks ), she offers a steamy and sensual look at the classic archetype of the female bather in the new millennium."
