thinking about the super mario chess set (the one where mario and luigi are the white king and queen respectively) and how to assign mario characters to the chess pieces in a more Thoughtful way. I think that mario and luigi should be knights (there's two of them and their main skill is jumping. come on) and that peach should be one of the kings (the object of the game is to prevent the other player from kidnapping your monarch). most importantly though the official mario chess set has the pawns just be Coins and Shells when the most obvious thing would be toads and goombas. anyway nintendo hire this jan etc

First version of Mario Chess, sculpted in 2008. Came out YEARS before Nintendo had the idea to release a licensed Mario chess product, and I know that theirs didn't have Waluigi in a dress!
