Have you ever heard of Finale Notepad? It's essentially a reduced version of Finale, but also free. It can't change key or time signature mid-piece and there is an 8 instrument limit, but as a casual composer/arranger/student, I really haven't found it limiting. I also (personally) find it much easier to use than MuseScore, plus it'll be a much easier transition between amateur and professional Finale.
I have! I actually used it for a long time - I only started using musescore last year. I totally forgot about it though, I'll add it to the list.
