You hadn't the pleasure of meeting him in years prior, but he always struck you as someone who preferred to play a supportive role. The type of man who faded into the background as if it were his home. How could someone like that command the attention of an entire audience in that steampunk circus? No less be the former ringmaster of it.
The answer became clear at the climax of their diamond heist.
The four of them stood in formation on stage, Elias rightmost to the witnesses. You hung onto every word as they made their escape, whisking you along once the lights cut out. But one sentence clung to you, in the haze of it all. A simple tagline from the cobalt-eyed gentleman who you could have sworn was staring directly at you:
