A ballad for a friend
When it comes to Wojeks,
No one is brighter,
Skilled in tactics as a fighter,
Than the Paladin Maris of the Boros.
He guards the streets with gentle care,
Giving citizens a pleasant air,
While working on a case,
He keeps his pace.
He is friendly to all in town,
Helping his friends all around,
Whether they are far or near,
He is always there for a peer.
So three cheers to the paladin we love,
A man with passion like a dove,
Maris we raise our glass to thee,
May your spirit always live free!
I wrote this in honor of my good friend, Maris. @actualborossoldier you are a wonderful Wojek!
Journal 426: Heartbreak
"What cannot be said will be wept." -Sappho Dear Journal, In the light of senseless killings, our feelings are muddled and the world feels turned upside down. I found myself walking down Tin Street Market. It was evening, and the sun was beginning to slip under the skyscape of the city. I was relaxed as I sauntered down the street. My walk was halted by a burst of light and flame. The source came from a shop down the street a block from me. Only seconds before the shop looked to be bustling and busy. Seconds later, there were screams of agony in the air and rubble thrown about. My heart lurched inside me. I gasped and found my feet rushing toward the carnage. The first thing I noticed was the bodies. There were so many bodies... Children who were on their way from school, guildless who were picking up groceries, guilded who were exchanging stories of the day. When I finally fell out of shock, I found my eyes blurred and my hands shaking. I yelled out, "Can anyone help?" People began to gather, but many only stopped to stare. I began to grab my lyre and did my best to muster a healing song I had learned from the druids of Selesnya. But the song didn't work that evening. As Simic and Selesnyan healers and Wojeks and Azorius investigators arrived, I slowly saw the eyes of 17 Ravnicans put to rest as many more winced as they were put onto stretchers. I stayed at the scene until the final body was removed from the remains of the shop. It was past midnight when I noticed that Maris walking up. Throughout the chaos, he had kept his calm, helped the injured, and closed the eyes of the fallen. I had barely noticed him as I was doing my best to console families and praying to Karametra. I was sitting on a piece of broken wall when Maris said softly, "Are you okay Theren? I heard you saw the explosion." I put my head into my hands. "I feel helpless. All I could do in the face of all this carnage was give words of condolence and try to help fill a void where another heart would lie, where another soul would shine. I couldn't stop the pain these people were caused," I sobbed as the moon showed its light on the street. "You did what you could Theren. We each do our best when the worst is thrown at us," Maris said as he patted me on my shoulder. We sat in silence for a few minutes. Maris encouraged me to head home and he walked me to the Oak Street Inn. I thanked him for walking with me and as I went into the Inn I said a short prayer. "Dear Karametra, Watch over the ones who have left this life and those who will be scarred for years. Give solace to the families and a reassurance to the healers and investigators that there work mattered. In the face of such great strife, may we ever be stronger as a community." Ooc- I wrote this piece to show my yearning that goes out to the victims and families of the Las Vegas shooting. My thoughts and prayers are with them this evening.
