I want people talking about how Salem and Marisol’s relationship is a healthy communicated parallel to Sydney and Jedidiah.

Jedidiah doesnt listen to Sydney’s concerns and doesnt take them seriously, and for that Sydney has a very hard time understanding Jedidiah’s control coming from a place of (albeit, distorted) concern. Sydney’s place is emotional and Jedidiah’s is practical often. THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO MARISOL AND SALEM.

And first of all, even as a healthy communicating couple they still argue. They get mad and they vent it out. But it is clearly communicated to one another. Salem talks about her struggle as a butch to not be seen as cruel because as a women she has to scream to get people to take her seriously. Marisol talks about her struggle as a trans women being talked over and not taken seriously because her voice isn’t seen as important. They communicate this to each other and come to an understanding of why the way they handle situations and where it comes from (love). This, as well as how what they are stereotyped as can make it difficult with Salem being a very practical or logical person and Marisol being a much more emotional and sensitive person. They see different points of view on a situation and learn how that can work together rather than against each other.

it should also not be lost on us how Sydney is referred to as “boy” and Jedidiah calls both of them “girls” when the argument ramps up. They are addressed in a way that makes their authority seem much less or “immature”.

With this, they are still parallels in the sense that Salem can still get people to listen to her (not without getting crap for it and having to scream for it in the first place) meanwhile for Marisol and Sydney it is very little if any.

Salem messes up and realizes it. She acknowledges Marisol and works to do something about it- she is in action. Jedidiah is beginning to try and listen but he is still mostly inactive- both him and Sydney still struggle to understand one another.

TLDR; Salem and Marisol and like if Sydney and Jedidiah communicated + with misogyny
