Tucked into the heart of Ueno’s Ameya-Yokocho, Marishiten Tokudai-ji is dedicated to Marishiten, a Buddhist goddess once revered by samurai and Edo-period merchants alike.
During the New Year season, banners announce special prayer services as visitors make their way on the temple steps seeking protection, strength, and prosperity before returning to the bustling market streets below.
